Thanks for all the comments everyone!

I think this is turning into a great resource. Spread the word and let's see if we can get an even more complete list going.

I'll definately be looking at some of these apps myself.

For a documentation tool I would recommend Sandcastle (http://blogs.msdn.com/sandcastle/). It's compatible with 2.0 features (generics, etc). There are also many helper projects on CodePlex.
NDoc still rules for 1.0 and 1.1.

I veto the FxCop suggestion. What a horrible horrible application.

Or maybe my problem is just the clueless mumbai sweat shop managers who decide everything needs to be FxCop compliant.

Jon: NDoc has been dormant since 2005 AFAIK.

Again, I would recommend doxygen. It does not have *complete* C#-support, but the developers are very helpful in trying to accomplish this. But then again, NDoc would also not have complete NDoc support, as development ceased in 2005...

Sidenote: Alex, would it not be a good idea to change the link from cruisecontrol.sf.net to ccnet.sf.net?

Alex,

went to get NDoc, noticed it prompted selection for .net 1.0 or 1.1, do you know anything about 2.0 support? thanks!

I know one IDE that is better than VS2005. It is VS2005 + ReSharper. Though I work for JetBrains now, but I knew this long before I joined the team. Try it! http://www.jetbrains.com/resharper

I would take a completely different approach:

The framework
Mono (go-mono.com), which ensures cross-platform

IDE:
emacs, c# mode and ecb

Profiler:
Monos profiler (http://www.mono-project.com/Performance_Tips)

Debugging:
mono --debug, or strace

Code analysis:
IronPython, embed a scripting language in c#

Unittesting:
I would just add, that NUnit not only has a GUI client, but also works great from the command-line. Plus it integrates nicely with cruisecontrol.net

Documentation:
We use doxygen. Simple and functional

Build tools:
Mono ships with the msbuild-compliant xbuild. this is great when trying to build projects from MS-VS. However, NAnt is much better.

Contiuous Integration Tools:
Why use CruiseControl, when they have CruiseControl.Net? (ccnet.sourceforge.net)

Source Control:
Subversion.

Bug Control:
Bugzilla, integrates to MS-VS through Bugzproxy (http://oss.dbc.dk/bugzproxy)

Happy Hacking!

Thanks for the links, Ryan. I'm glad you're adding your own picks. Above are the tools that I use personally and professionally... and have for years so I feel comfortable and confident in recommending them.

I'll definately take a look at SharpDevelop as I've heard many great things about it.

Happy programming!

SharpDevelop getting no love in the IDE category? http://www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/

If you are looking for an IDE that helps with mono and windows .net SharpDevelop is better than VS.NET. It is maiinly for class libraries not web or forms much but 3.0 is adding some WPF and XAML support.

What about XAMLPad?
